He stared at Dehan for a long moment, then at me. He swallowed and shook his head.

“I don’t know. She married some guy in New York.”

Dehan spoke from over by the door. “But you stayed in touch.”

He made a weeping face and spread his hands. “It was a holiday thing. We played around for a couple of weeks. She wasn’t so big back then, but I like big women anyway. You know? It was fun. She went back to New York. We used to send each other dirty messages for a laugh, and once a year she’d go west for a holiday. We’d screw around for a couple of weeks. Then she’d go home.

“One year she sends me a message.” He laughed. “The stupid bitch is apologizing because she never told me she was married. Like I give a shit, man! I told her I would never forget her and I was gonna go blow my fuckin’ brains out. It was sarcasm, man!” He leaned forward, staring at Dehan like he thought she was a moron, shaking his head. “Sarcasm! You know it? It’s spelt S-A-R-C-A-S-M! Well the stupid fuckin’ bitch thought I was serious, for crying out loud! And she starts sending me messages like she didn’t realize I cared so much. She thought it was just a holiday affair. If only she had known. You know? Like we just found each other. Fuckin’ soul mates. That kind of crap.

“I was gonna tell her she was out of her fuckin’ mind, but she showed up next summer and, man, the sex was crazy. She was wild. You know what I’m saying? She was on a mission. She was telling me she was gonna divorce this dude and move out west. And, man, I’m telling you, as long as she was doing what she was doing, I was not going to burst her bubble.”

He started to laugh again. “So I thought, if she is this crazy normally, what the hell is she gonna be like if she gets high, man? So I convinced her to smoke some weed. Dude!” He screamed with laughter. “Dude! She was wild! I am tellin’ you, W-I-L-D! We broke the fuckin’ bed! And next thing she is talking about is how she’s gonna fuckin’ kill her husband! Kill her fuckin’ husband! And I’m like, What? I’m like fuckin’ what?”

Dehan came and sat beside me. “Kill her husband? Did she say how?”

He waved both hands at her. “No man, it’s worse than that. She is tellin’ me she’s gonna kill her husband and her daughter.”

I held up a hand. “Wait a minute! Wait a minute! How long ago did this happen?”

“Like, I don’t know. Two years ago?”

“She said she was going to kill her husband and her daughter two years ago?”

“Yeah, man. But like, when she said that I broke off with her. That was too crazy for me. I didn’t want to know. I know women have hormones and get depression and that kind of crazy shit.
